RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the Tax Accounting Function:
- Prepare the current and deferred tax position and tax exposures for each entity
- Lead the interim and year-end tax provision process
- Oversee the preparation of tax information for financial reporting requirements, MD&A and related disclosures
- Gain an understanding of the Organization's financial reporting systems in order to enhance the effectiveness of tax information gathering
- Manager the review of the quarterly and year-end tax financial reporting by external financial auditors
- Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with accounting, legal, and finance personnel
- Advise Senior Management on propert tax accounting treatment for external and internal business, M&A, and restructuring transactions
- Develop and maintain a practical, "best practices" approach to managing the tax accounting and reporting functions
Managing the Tax Planning and Special Projects:
- Provide tax planning advice to the Senior Management for acquisitions and divestitures
- Provide tax due diligence on all M&A
- Provide technical tax research assistance as needed
- Provide tax planning strategies affecting our organizational structure
Managing Tax Compliance:
- Review tax returns prepared by third party consultants
- Advise on tax positions to take in the tax returns
- Manage all CRA audits including the preparation of audit defense strategies
- Manage all income tax and commodity tax compliance
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical:
- Professional accounting designation
- Completed the In-Depth Tax Course
- Minimum of 5 years tax experience with a public accounting firm or large commercial entity
- Strong technical research skills
- Superior knowledge of tax accounting reporting requirements under IFRS
- Understanding of tax rules for Real Estate Investment Trusts would be an asset

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to grow and adapt in a changing organization
